The Odee Company again. Today we’re gonna talk about
Green Printing.
We’ll talk about green printing in several different videos because there’s a bunch of different aspects. This video is going to basically focus on carbon neutral.
Carbon neutral is basically the reduction of greenhouse gases or emissions that someone is going to admit during the manufacturing process.
Printing can be carbon neutral. One of the ways that you can do this is by using vegetable inks, which The Odee Company does. Also eco-friendly press solutions.
Both of those need to be recycled after their use, or either the waste of the press solution after the use of the manufacture of the printing job.
The other way to do it is purchase carbon credits, which we also do. We do that with Verus Carbon Neutral and what we are doing is basically: the carbon credits or the emissions that we can have offset, we are actually purchasing carbon credits.
Verus Carbon Neutral supports a reforestation project.
Which is primarily what we do, because as a printing industry we use primarily wood products to make the paper, and so
that we’ve chosen to do the reforestation as our choice.
Other important things to do are renewable energy as far as wind, thermal, solar, that kind of, you know, types of renewable energy.
Also, we need to have in mind the actual conservation of energy.
Those are some of the things that we are doing right now as we speak. Our utility provider does a percentage of renewable energy wind power. Then we are also replacing our lighting. As it needs to be replaced, we’re replacing it with lower wattage higher efficiency type lighting.
Still fluorescent at this point, we look forward to the day when we can do LED, but we think we are still probably two to five years away from that being economically viable.
That’s basically the gist on carbon neutral in the printing industry.
